[Louvre.edu] offers free access to all middle schools and high schools
All secondary educational institutions have access to this service by using their Louvre user ID and password.
Louvre.edu, which was produced by the Louvre Museum and Pagesjaunes Publishing in partnership with the Ministry of Education, was tested by 325 schools between January 1999 and March 2001.
It provides access to the collections and facilities of the Louvre Museum, including 3800 works of art and a virtual tour of 350 galleries, as well as to a large library of texts: biographies, leaflets (abstracts on a painter, an artistic movement etc., available in the various galleries of the Louvre), notes on works of art, dictionaries etc. Tools (such as index cards) and search functions are provided to make their visit easier.
Each teacher has access to a virtual desktop through which he or she can make selections from the database of art works and documents for individual projects. Their selections can then be accessed from any work station for viewing, reorganizing or use in a course. Teachers can also download their selections to their personal computers and integrate the elements downloaded into a documentary application and make them available to students off-line through the school's own internal network.
They can also create a virtual desktop for student groups involved in projects as a part of diversified programmes and cross-disciplinary studies in middle schools, and guided personal studies and multi-disciplinary vocational projects in high schools.Click here for a quick look at the contents of this service or to download it.
For the conditions of access to this service: read the technical and teaching notices or download them.An Edulouvre mailing list has been set up to allow users of the service to communicate amongst themselves, announce their projects and initiate inter-school projects.
